Participant registration

All participants will have to register and pay the participation fee before the registration deadline.

Registration form link: https://form.jotform.com/91494148898173

All participants should have also completed the annual registration for the 2019-20 academic year.

Please note that the liability waiver and photo/video release HAS to be on file for any student to participate.

Performance Guidelines

Annual Recital Program Guidelines

Please read the guidelines carefully and adhere to all the ‘Performance Guidelines’ & ‘Photo/Video policy’ to ensure a smooth and successful performance. Your full cooperation and support is highly appreciated:

1. On program day, participants should be well rested and not commit to any other engagements. This is mainly because of the intense level of focus, preparation, and time that is required to get ready and perform.

2. All participants should check-in with the volunteers-in-charge on arrival. Dancers, please wear a front-button shirt before you start makeup. Also bring a backup home dress to the venue.

3. Please arrive fully ready with your makeup and hair neatly done, exactly as specified by the Artistic Director. Please carry any extra costumes/accessories and makeup you may require for last minute touch-ups.

Students who are ONLY in singing but not in dance, should wear: traditional pattu or silk-cotton pAvAdai and  blouse. The blouse should have a sleeve (sleeveless blouse will not be allowed). Please wear light makeup, bright bindi, hair in plait or ponytail with fresh jasmine flowers (if possible). Please wear tights or capri pant under your skirt so that you can be seated comfortably. Please come prepared with enough snacks/refreshments. You will be required to stay till the end and join for the mangalam.

4. Bring bring a large towel to cover your costume while eating/drinking. Keep paper towels/tissues ready for wiping hands/face, and ensure that the participants DO NOT wipe their hands/face on the costume. Do not iron your costumes, unless specifically asked to do so. Damaged costumes due to food-drink stains/soiling/tearing will have to be replaced at full cost.

5. Participants can bring a packed snack (eg. banana/apple slices/nuts/dry cereal/cookies/veg rice/upma) and a spill-proof water bottle. Please ensure that you finish eating/drinking outside the auditorium area. No food or drinks should be brought inside the theater.

6. During the performance, we request audience members not to stand or crowd the area in front of the stage or the aisles OR walk in and out of the auditorium in the middle of a song/dance, as this can distract the performers. All participants are encouraged to watch the entire program seated inside the auditorium and NOT engage in talking.

7. Parents are requested to supervise their young children at the venue. There is strictly no running or shouting in the hallway or theater area.

8. Only participants, assigned volunteers, and dance moms who are helping with stage management, decor, costume changes, etc, will be allowed in the makeup rooms and backstage area. Due to liability reasons, please DO NOT bring any non-participant young children to the backstage and makeup rooms. There will be a lot of equipment and electrical supplies backstage and it can be highly risky.

9. Assigned parent volunteers will usher the participants to and from the stage. They will also supervise their seating before and after the performance.

10. Dance participants should wear their salangai (ankle bells) only after getting them blessed by the Guru. All dancers should wear their bells just before going on stage for their item. Walking/running in the hallway or theater area with the bells on is not permitted. Please make sure that your child (and other dancers) do not talk or make any noise when the performance is going on. Dancers should remain in their full costume/jewelry and bells for the final mangalam (curtain call). PLEASE DO NOT WEAR SHOES/SANDALS ON STAGE.

Photo & Video policy

We request all parents/families (and your guests) NOT to video record the performance on any devices such as cell phones or video cameras. ONLY the official photographers/videographer will have permission to take pictures/video. The participation fee includes a professional video and photographs of your performance (dance and/or music). The photographs and video will be available as soon as we receive the final edited/mastered copy. It usually takes about 4 to 8 weeks.

Parents who would like to volunteer to take photographs, please let me know ahead of time, so that I can provide your with a volunteer badge.

The performance videos are ONLY meant for your own family's keepsake. We have to abide by very strict proprietary protocol for the music, the concept, and the choreography. We also have to respect the privacy of all the dancers in the videos.

So please do not post the videos (in part or whole) on social media (facebook, instagram, twitter, etc). Also do not forward on whatsapp groups, etc. If you would like to share with your extended family, please send only a small excerpt of the video NOT the entire video.

Dance makeup and hair workshop

For the benefit of the new dance students and their parents, I will be offering a makeup and hair workshop in the next few days. This workshop will be free for Samskriti families. Due to limited space/time, the workshop is mainly for the Thursday dance groups. Others are welcome to attend. I will also be showing you all the required material that you will need to purchase.
